Reflection of Voicethread

When I first started the voicethread I played around with it to get a feel about how to work it. It was actually pretty easy to maneuver once I figured out how to work the site. After watching the tutorial video about the voicethread it made it easier to pick up on how to create one. I have to admit I usually am not one for technology but I feel like this assignment gave me a chance to play around with my insecurities about technology. Being able to make a voicethread gave me the opportunity to play around with different aspects of technology that I generally do not used. Before this class I had never heard of a “voicethread” and did not know what to expect.Knowing what is involved within a voicethread , I believe it could be a creative, easy way to incorporate technology into a lesson. Children love technology and love to try new things but in classrooms they are often repeating the same activities over and over again and are losing the ability to really think about what they are doing.
I believe that by using activities such as the voicethread, children can be motivated about what they are doing because it is new and interactive. Older children, specifically children in middle school are used to the same activities day in and day out, however by using new methods of technology, they can be given the chance to figure out the voicethread on their own.
When I have my own classroom and I will most likely try and incorporate different technology into my lessons because of the growing usage of technology in the world. Voicethreads can be used within a classroom. As a teacher I can make my own lesson via a voicethread and let the children watch the video so they can have an example of different ways that an individual could produce information. If they see a PowerPoint every day, then their attention may start to wander.
Children can also produce their own voicethread either by group or individually. By producing a voicethread, they are showing that not only do they know how to use the new technology but they also showing they understand the different content contained in the voicethread. A voicethread is also a great way to broadcast a student’s writing abilities and standards. I think it is important to incorporate technology such as the voicethread because we are in time period where technology is being used at every corner.
